Can I Join My Non-Muslim Family For Holiday Dinner?
Taimiyyah Zubair

A great number of us Muslims have relatives who are non-Muslims and would want the whole family to join them for holiday dinners for Christmas or Thanksgiving. Is it permissible to attend such dinners?

It's permissible. The default rule is that any gathering between family that will help maintain family ties is encouraged. As long as we make sure that we stay true to our religion, we do not partake in any non-Islamic rituals or practices, it is ok to spend time with family at these events. It can be a good means of Da'wah, inshaAllah.

Shaykh Waleed Basyouni explains further.
