It may be the case that your parents or in this case, one's father, has a dispute with another family member. Yet you may not have any disputes with this person, and want to maintain good ties with them. What should be done? Who should we give preference to?
Keeping your father happy and content is an obligation in Islam. It is punishable to make your father feel dishonoured or disrespected. But it is actually disobedience to Allah if you were to boycott a family member because your father is boycotting him. That does not give you legitimacy to boycott him as well.
