Social expectations can make some women feel like they have to choose between family and worship in Ramadan. Which responsibility should women prioritize?
Allah has obligated multiple responsibilities on every single person. When it comes to family vs worship, everyone has to take their role seriously.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses and answers the question
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aala has obligated multiple responsibilities on every single person. And when it comes to the issue of family versus worship, every single one of us has to prioritize both at the same time. We have to be good family members, good parents and sons and daughters and husbands and wives. And we have to worship Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aala, and there is no either or here. The priority is both simultaneously. So within each other you have to learn how to pray and fast and take care of the family.
And here's the beautiful point. When a woman or a man takes care of the family with ihsaan, with perfection and keeps Allah in his or her mind and does it for the sake of Allah, then even taking care of the family will become an act of worship. So yes, even taking care of the family will be rewarded by Allah, but still, even as we take care of the family, take some time out to read the Quran as well, and to make sure we do our prayers and to do as much ibadah as possible.
And husbands as well, cut some slack on your wives. Give them some opportunity and room to worship Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aala in this month. This is the month of prayer and fasting and charity and tahajjud and qiyam-ul-layl and Quran. So allow everybody time to do these blessed things.
